Zanshin Dojo opened as a karate school in 1992 and became the first school of Gracie jiu-jitsu in middle Tennessee in 1994. The dojo is a member of JJGF, U.S. Eastern Wado-Ryu Karate Federation, Japanese Wado-Ryu Renmei and Brazilian Wado-Ryu karate federations. Many of the students have gone on to become world champion competitors and successful school owners. At Zanshin Dojo, focus is on the highest quality martial arts techniques with applications for self-defense as well as tournament competition.

Eric Silver, head instructor of Zanshin Dojo started training in judo in 1971. He has trained in Gracie jiu-jitsu and Wado-Ryu karate in the U.S., Brazil, Japan and Europe. He is a third degree black-belt in jiu-jitsu and one of the few Americans awarded their black-belt directly from Rickson. He is also a sixth degree black-belt in Wado-Ryu karate. In addition to extensive training with Rickson, he has trained with jiu jitsu luminaries, Royler Gracie, Fabio Gurgel, Marcelo Garcia and Demian Maia. Jiu-jitsu classes at Zanshin Dojo are open to men, women and children. No previous experience is required and uniforms may be purchased through the school. Visitors are always welcome.
