A confluence of methods are used. From one river of Jiu Jitsu we have Nage Waza and Katame Waza(throwing and holding technique) which is up close and on the body, and from the other river we use Atemi Waza and Kansetsu Waza (Vital point striking and joint locking) which is at arms length distance. So a confluence is most practical for Self Defense.
For myself I specialize in private instruction, and maintain my academy with JJGF because I love the community and want my students to have access to the great Jiujitsu masters and the culture of Jiu Jitsu as a martial art.
