Paulo Parente Marques Mendes is a managing
partner at Di Blasi, Parente & Associados, an attorney at law and Intellectual
Property agent, and he has been practicing for nearly 30 years.
His IP practice includes both national and
international cases involving trademarks, patents, designs, and copyright. He
also advises and assists clients on issues relating to copyright, trademarks,
image rights, entertainment, media, sports, competition and consumer rights.
He is the author and co-author of several books
and articles on intellectual property and is a guest speaker at national and
international congresses on the subject.
Paulo Parente began learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
with Master Helio Gracie in 1980. A devotedly BJJ student, he also trained with
Master ?Jacaré? (Alliance Academy) and afterwards with Master Silvio Behring.
In 1986 he created the first radio program
exclusively on BJJ, broadcasted across radio stations in Brazil.
Along with his trainings, he practiced British
Boxing with Master Claudio Coelho (Nobre Arte Academy) for a few years.
As a 3rd Degree Black Belt, he continues
to develop the strategies and techniques he learned from his Masters, attending
and presenting several BJJ congresses and seminars.
Throughout the years, Paulo Parente has
actively participated in charity events to disseminate the true culture and
foundation of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu art: self-defense and respect.

He is
currently an Advisor and the Chairman of the Industrial Property and Anti-Counterfeiting
Committee (CPIP) of the OAB-RJ. He is also a Board Member of the Brazilian
Intellectual Property Association (ABPI). Mr. Parente is also the Chairman of
the national group of the Ligue Internationale du Droit de la Concurrence
(LIDC) and Delegate of the National Group of Inter-American Association of
Intellectual Property (ASIPI), serves on the ADR Committee of the International
Trademark Association (INTA), and is a member of the Jiu Jitsu Global
Federation (JJGF), Confederation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (CBJJ) and Jiu Jitsu
Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FJJDRJ).
