SHARING KNOWLEDGE – July 2019
Hello JIU JITSU friends!
Upon receiving the invitation to write this article, immediately came to mind the day I’ve asked Rickson how he would share his knowledge and wisdom in Jiu Jitsu with us and with the world? We had no idea that digital platforms would be the vehicle for transmitting information and disseminating content! Today we have a vast content of techniques and tips that preserve the essence of Son-ki-ri's genius interpretation of integrated fighting systems and their finest details.
Sharing knowledge is necessary and there are no closed doors for anyone who wants to evolve.
We are rebuilt and reinvented with the experience of all learned and touch movements, and, with the transmitted concepts and philosophy as well!
Right after the the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation creation, with a differentiated management and a proposal to spread the essence of the Gracie Jiu Jitsu technical quality, I realized the sincere intention of providing a better professional qualification to professors, instructors, monitors and practitioners.
The first online course produced by JJGF, the Self Defense Unit, answers my question of many years ago
We only have to thank the "open the knowledge box" attitude providing us with this unique program, now is time to study!
Once I have read... “The person we are going to be five years from now depends on the people we are close today, the books we are reading today and, above all, the contents that feed our minds today”. That is why we should approach and live with positive and healthy people, people who lead us upwards and teach us through their examples. It is a question of attitude and conduct, being with good people is fundamental to gain experience and gain the “prompt response”, in order to be prepared for the moment we face with undisciplined, rebellious and misconduct persons.
The Wise Man usually share their best and most valuable knowledge, with those around them.
There is a story that represents this theme very well, of unknown authorship.
Therefore, follow a parable for our empathy and reflection.
It is the history of a successful farmer, who year after year has won the "Best Corn" trophy at his town's agriculture fair. What impressed most was the "Kaizen", that is, the continuous improvement of its product, his corn’s quality evolution was constant.
A reporter from a local newspaper approached him after the award to ask him about his methods. The information given by the farmer made the reported astonished… It was regarding his outstanding product cultivation strategy. The reporter discovered that the farmer shares his best corn seeds with all his neighbors. Intrigued, the reporter asked:
"How are you willing to share your best seed with your neighbors when they are your main competitors?"
The farmer, with compassion, looked him in the eye and replied, "Sir, the wind and many insects transport the corn pollen from field to field. If my neighbors grow lower quality corn, the pollination will constantly degrade my plantation. If I want to grow a quality corn, I have to help my neighbors to cultivate a high quality corn”, and somehow, everyone wins.
It is the same in other areas of our lives. We will be much more likely to live in peace if those around us are also well. This reminds us of Sun Tzu: "If you want peace, be prepared for the war." Our day-to-day warfare is basically this... Fighting for those around us to be well. That goes for our family, our friends, employees, students, customers... As well, for those who are inconveniet, for when we are managing their misbehaviors. Somehow the well-being of each one is connected to the well-being of all.
